Brief background of ownership:

Power FM began in December 1998 as an urban radio station aimed at youth between fifteen and thirty years. The station commenced as a joint project initiated by Far East Broadcasting Association of UK (FEBA-UK) bringing together three Kampala City churches and an evangelical para- church organisation. Power FM is currently registered as a Limited Company with five signed up shareholders: Kampala Pentecostal Church, Baptist Union (represented by Kampala Baptist Church), Church of Uganda and Africa Evangelistic Enterprise.

Word from the General Manager:

Since September 2003, 104.1 Power FM has undergone several changes. With new Management, fresher sounds and dynamic leadership, the station stems a more positive image under the different departments.

Our new image is reflected in the new logo. While before, yellow and Red were the brand colours, currently blue and yellow feature greatly with a compact disc to symbolize the music based programming for which we stand. There are also new programs, new presenters and new equipment.

“We are becoming bigger and better. Professional training is almost complete, a transmitter that covers Kampala, Entebbe, Wakiso and areas of Masaka and Jinja. From Kampala’s Friendliest Station, our new slogan is, It’s All About, Love.

This is because everything we stand for and represent is a result of the love of the Lord we believe in. It also means that you and I need to realize that love is commonplace for all of us and is an invisible strength that can help us in our work, at home, as we study and as we relate to one another.

As Power FM is a Christian station, it is run on pure business principle. Power FM has to strive to find funding through advertisement to meet its running costs as well as the statutory requirements like taxes and licenses. This is the biggest challenge.
The General Manager Mr. Hannington Muyenje says,” It is a great privilege we have as the new Power FM to have to trust God to fund the station. It is His business. He started it and He will see to it that Power FM prospers in the midst of such heavy competition. Our challenge is to stay focused on the souls and professional programming, the rest-Jehovah Jireh will continue to provide.

God Bless you
